I would tell young people to carefully plan what they want to do with their lives and not go to college simply to "explore."
As a former college instructor, I can tell you that many dollars are wasted when students change majors several times. I would also advise them to consider a vocational trade as these jobs are becoming more in demand and can often times provide a good income with little training.
Our country is filled, unfortunately, with college grads who cannot find work and are living in Mom and Dad's basement. Worst of all, they owe thousands for that seemingly "worthless" degree. Parents and educators need to change their way of thinking and encourage these students to consider the alternatives when they plan their careers.
