Does our country need to make an immediate decision regarding this 1.5 billion in foreign aid? As i recall, the muslim brotherhood government received fighter planes and financial aid last year-- democratically elected at the time or not, the philosophy of Morsi and others in the Muslim brotherhood is to bring Sharia law to this country, establish a global caliphate and persecute non believers such as the Coptic Christians. Moreover, over the past year, Morsi has sought to solidify his control over the country.
However continued stability of this region is critical given the geographic importance of Egypt. Moreover, the country is financially in trouble. Having said that, i don't think we should be quick to give financial aid or to withdraw it.
A US voice at the table is important - we should continue to monitor closely and distribute any financial - military aid slowly as conditions warrant.
