From its inception in 1910, the Boy Scouts of America’s stated purpose was "to teach patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred values." The future of scouting will hinge on whether gay scouts will assimilate, learn, and share these same values. Being gay (or heterosexual, for that matter) should not be a topic of discussion in any way within the Boy Scouts. I worry that now that they have been accepted into the organization there will be an attempt to focus on the sexual orientation of the scouts. Any youth’s sexual orientation should never be an issue or discussed within the scouts. I have heard that scout masters have resigned due to this policy. If this continues, and churches supporting the BSA also stop supporting them, it could mean the end of the organization altogether, which would be a real loss for the youth of America.
