I have been following GMOs for quite some time and the fact that the FDA permitted them to be introduced into our food supply in the early 1990s without proper testing is alarming.  During the Clinton administration, Michael Taylor of the FDA allowed recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) in our milk without testing, declaring it to be substantially the same as natural milk.  I wrote an article about this a couple of years ago, linked below, about the history of the FDA and Michael Taylor, who worked for Monsanto before working for the FDA, and who is now President Obama’s Food Safety Czar.  This is becoming an international problem, as Japan and Russia are refusing to accept American exports due to unlabeled GMOs in nearly all of our food.  Most developed countries, especially ones who did proper testing, refuse to allow them into their food supply.  I attribute much of our health issues, including our obesity epidemic, early onset puberty, autism, immunological diseases, diabetes, and food allergies, to GMOs.  In 1994 America began allowing them into our food supply, and 20 years later we suddenly seem to have so many health problems?  I do not believe this is a coincidence.  Also, the FDA does not permit labeling of foods to say they contain GMOs, so we do not even know what foods they are in that we are eating.  It seems strange that our government demands that food producers and restaurants label foods or the content of items on their menu as to calories, fat, sodium, etc., but will not allow us to know which contain GMOs. Movements to demand labeling have been defeated.  Monsanto has quite a lot of power within the federal government.  For a link to a Japanese article where they have cancelled a wheat order, click here.  Also, recently Russia has challenged the U. S. on this issue, as you can see in the article here.

We as parents and Americans should insist that we know if foods we are eating contain GMOs.  I believe a lot of our health issues would go away if we stayed away from these foods.  As I wrote in my article, this is an issue we all should get behind.  For my article from 2011, which gives a history of GMOs in America, click here.
