It's no surprise that people speak through their wallet and we still love freedom in this country. In spite of the trending toward "big government", folks still relocate to the areas of the country where the tax burden is less and therefore, freedom is somewhat more plentiful. I have lived in the south all of my life and the number of folks relocating from the northeast has been an incredible migration for many years. I was in residential real estate for many years. When someone from the northern areas of the country would come to look at property, it was always such a joy. After qualifying them to see what price range they could afford, we would go out to look at properties. Usually, these folks were overjoyed when they would see what they could afford. In many cases, the total of the Mortgage, taxes and insurance would be far less than they were paying in taxes alone in their old location. Usually, making a sale was very easy. There is a problem now developing in the south, as I see it. Many of these folks relocating from other more liberal areas, come here for the freedom and the lower cost of living. But they bring with them the ideas from the old location and then work to transform our area into what they had just escaped from. They don't seem to realize that it will transform the way of life they are seeking to find into the one they escaped. It's very frustrating to explain that nothing is free and somebody has to pay for it. If we adopt the socialist ideas from their old communities, we can't remain the way we have been.
