I don't see that the fact that he is from Argentina and of Hispanic descent have any bearing on his being elected the new pope. It's far more important to me that he is a traditional Catholic and will uphold the teachings of the church. I am not familiar enough with him to know what he will be like in his tenure as Pope. I do know that he is a staunch outspoken opponent of abortion so the stance of the church probably will not change in that regard. In so many cases today, believers compromise our beliefs in order to gain favor with others. The idea goes something like this, "we disagree with your stance or your beliefs on this or that issue. Therefore, you must compromise your beliefs in order to 'not offend' the rest of us." I pray that the Pope will be one who has the strength to stand against those voices, even some within his own Church.
