Arrival of Olympics Means the Conventions Are Just around the Corner

Once every four years, and right before the presidential conventions, billions of eyes are turned to the Olympics to watch women and men who have trained for years (in some cases their entire lives) for this one moment--one chance to bring home gold for their country. The opening ceremony sets the tone and the mood for the Olympics.  This year did not disappoint! Hollywood director (and London resident) Danny Boyle produced a ceremony with elements of drama, humor and majesty.

The pride that filled the hearts of fans from 202 countries as their athletes entered the stadium to "let the games begin" was evident as flashes from cameras were flickering all over the arena. The moment of the night (if social media is a good indicator) had to be the mock-entrance of the Queen with the current James Bond from a helicopter.  With one entertaining video, her humor and grace were on display as she welcomed the world to her home and opened the games.

In just about one month, millions of eyes will be on the presidential conventions--the Republicans in Tampa, Florida and the Democrats in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Typically, each candidate will get a bounce from his convention and the election cycle will officially be "game on!"  Palladian View is looking forward to taking part in the ceremonies--as delegates and alternates, hosts, and media. Our managing editor will be representing South Carolina on the national Platform Committee as the party continues its three-legged conservative stool: fiscal strength, social values, and national security. Be watching on www.palladianview.com for regular blogs from all aspects of the convention and also as we Tweet and post to Facebook photos and live events.

Palladian View is rooting for Team USA all the way in the Olympics and will be covering Team Romney in Tampa. Our athletes are Going for the Gold in London and we will be Going for the Prize--November 6.
