As usual, the Republicans will be blamed by the liberal media.

The question of course is "Is it REALLY endangered" What type of mitigation could be done to protect the mussels while still allowing the gas industry to work. Too many times a species is leaving an area but is doing quite well in another and therefore not REALLY endangered.

Since he has hit such an out pouring of resistance, this would be a good way for him to save face. The public demonstrations won't let him ignore Congress and some of his own party.
