I hope the Republicans and the pro-Israel Democrats are sufficient to prevent Hagel's nomination. Since the majority of the American people are in favor of Israel's existence, I am optimistic the effort to block Mr. Hagel's nomination will succeed.

An intelligent response would look like this: Governors should be appointing commissions to study school safety and eventually a national conference should be held; knee-jerk action to enact favorite legislation of advocacy groups would be a mistake.
