Harry Reid has carried out the will of President Obama and not only provided a distraction from the continuing stories of the train wreck that is Obamacare but also destroyed over 200 years of U.S. Senate history. Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats do not want a healthy loyal opposition party to balance arguments in Washington, D.C. They do not believe in three equal branches of government. This is the Imperial Presidency.
It will be interesting, though when Karma strikes back at them. Politics is a cyclical beast and when the GOP takes back the Senate - hopefully in 2014 - and the House remains in GOP hands, President Obama will not be able to get any of his bad policy initiatives through Congress. When the next GOP president comes into power it will be interesting when the Democrats realize it will only take 51 senators to confirm his Attorney General, for example, instead of 60.
Barack Obama was against the nuclear option when he was Senator Obama and George W Bush was president, with a GOP majority in the Senate and House. So was Reid, Schumer, and all the rest of them. Republicans in the Senate let cooler heads prevail and didn't blow up the Senate, as the Democrats have now done.
