I agree with Mona Charen that our primary process has become much too long. It requires candidates to raise a huge war chest over a long period of time and unfortunately I think some voters lose interest with the process being so long!! It also puts stress not only on the candidates but especially on the family of the candidates. I do feel some very capable potential candidates decide not to enter a race because of the prolonged stress that their families have to endure!
The voters need time to get to know the candidates but two to three years before the race is much too long. Candidates used to do well with declaring a year before the actual election. With all the technology and media we have now the voters might appreciate going back to a year or so before the actual election to start to make decisions on who to vote for. Except for those of us who are political junkies, most voters I think might feel less time but really focused time might be better?
