Since there is no mention of marriage at all in the Constitution, I believe the states should have jurisdiction over the issue, and the voters should decide whether to acknowledge same sex marriages.

California’s Proposition 8 has not been struck down. The parties who brought the case to the Supreme Court had no standing. In other words, they had no stake or interest in the dispute.  It is important to understand the nuance of this case, so I am linking to an article by Ken Klukowski, legal contributor to Breitbart.com, who is also “a senior fellow for religious liberty at the Family Research Council and on faculty at Liberty University School of Law, and authored a brief in the Supreme Court's marriage litigation.”  Ken’s explanation can be read here.  As it stands, it appears the will of the voters of California has been ignored when it comes to supporting traditional marriage.

As to DOMA, the Supreme Court ruling has basically declared that everyone who was in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act is intolerant and bigoted.  This is far from the truth, as most people I believe do not want to keep homosexual couples from being able to share the same benefits as heterosexual couples.  They just believe that “marriage” by definition is to be a commitment between and man and a woman to share their lives and raise their children together teaching them the traditional values and morals of the Judeo-Christian faith.  Now that marriage has been “undefined” and special privileges will be granted to same sex couples, the door is wide open for others to request special treatment under the law.  We will see shari’ah introduced into our legal system, which allows for a man to have multiple wives and also to marry very young girls.  With this ruling, the Supreme Court will also have to grant the Muslim community “special” privileges.  In addition, Mormons will also be able to ask for “special” privileges and be permitted to have multiple wives.

When “groups” receive special treatment under the law, individual rights are always lost.  Will religious leaders be forced to marry couples against their religious and moral values?  Will businesses be forced to provide services to same sex couples even if it is against their personal beliefs to do so?  Will the left be tolerant of other and differing beliefs?

Where will this end?
