It would seem that school officials would take a holistic look for preventing at risk behavior. As I view this, students need more than a self report so school officials will show an interest in them. Students deserve attention if they are at risk or if they are not. In regard to the teacher who was interested in protecting the students rights, he was right on and that is why another teacher said that he was the kind of teacher that related well with his students. I say that he gave students educational and good advice. Now, pressure could be put on that school to treat the students as important from day one and not just after a survey. Children of all ages deal with terrific stress. They deal with pressure to do illegal drugs, premature sexual activity, involvement in unhealthy relationships, family divorce and violence. Integrating programs to create communication skills, develop talents and learning to maintain long term relationships would be a more whole approach, not just targeting students who already have problems.
