The Chicago way calls for accusing your opponents the way they should be accusing you. Never mind truth or ethics, in fact, the God Father of the Chicago way, Saul Alinsky made up his own ethics. Rule number 10 seems to apply here: You do what you can with what you have and clothe it in moral garments.
So if you have deeply offended people, accuse them of having offended you. Why not? What have you got to lose if you're caught red-handed with a cookie in your hand and an empty cookie jar? At that point the offended child says with feigned moral outrage, "I can't believe you don't trust me!"
