I am very happy Senator Harry Reid declared he would not submit a gun control bill which would include an assault weapons ban. Since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, the talk of stricter gun control legislation has resulted in an increase of purchases of ammunition and firearms, and applications for concealed weapons permits. The American people, both Republican and Democrat, believe very strongly in their second amendment right to keep and bear arms. An assault weapons ban would never receive enough votes in the Senate to pass. I believe Senator Reid would love to pass a very restrictive gun control bill, but knows it would be the end of his career. His decision is self-serving, but this time I will take it. As for the final bill, I believe the political winds will guide the decision, so we must keep on our congressmen and women to remember their oath to support and defend the Constitution.
