I have two grandchildren, one in kindergarten and one in second grade.  I have looked over their school work, and I have noticed, and told my daughter to be aware of, the fact that they are showing “family” units that do not include a mother and father, or even one or the other for that matter.  One little book showed a “community” home with a Black kid, an Asian kid, an Hispanic kid, and a White kid in a wheelchair.  My first response to my daughter was “Do you think they got everyone covered?”, and then I explained to her that they are omitting parents in a lot of the curriculum and she should pay attention to this.  The federal government believes that the younger they can get your children the better they can indoctrinate them to be good “global citizens.”  This should set off alarms for everyone.

No Child Left Behind, Race To The Top, Common Core…all federal programs and all are failing our children.  They have dumbed down the curriculum and our children are not prepared to be competitive in the global marketplace.  In the state of Florida alone, taxpayers spend nearly $200 million a year in colleges for remedial classes to bring high school graduates up to college level performance.  The federal government should get out of education completely and the states should be responsible to set education standards for their students.

Another interesting point I would like to make is that years ago there were stay at home moms or grandparents who would take kids in to watch for parents who worked, but today the requirements demanded for someone to be “certified” to be a daycare provider have all but eliminated this alternative to commercial daycare centers.  They have to be licensed, inspected, have childcare and first aid training, on and on.  It is a sad testament to how intrusive government has gotten into our lives.
