As a nation we need to have a comprehensive immigration policy moving forward. Yes, we need to better secure the borders. We also have to realize it is probably impossible to deport all the illegal immigrants who are now here. I do not know all the details of the bipartisan Senate proposal but what I have read sounds like a decent proposal for dealing with this issue. We need to find an organized path to citizenship to those who are here illegally but a spot in line after those who came into our country legally. We need to be sure to do a better job with VISA tracking, set up really effective employee verification systems, and effective worker programs so we know who the immigrants are and where they are. No more slipping through the cracks! Not letting immigrants get "lost in the system" is also crucial to our national defense. Most of the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11 were immigrants who disappeared from the tracking system!
