I was surprised at the boldness displayed by Sanford in declaring he's running for the Congressional seat. He said that his political career was over when he left office in disgrace.
From someone outside of South Carolina and not able to cast a vote in the election, I would strongly encourage Republican women in the state to recruit and support a solid woman as a candidate. Sanford plays directly into the stereotype we are trying to overcome - that of a white male who doesn't respect women. He is seen as a hypocrite, too, since he was so vocal about "family values" and yet destroyed his own family with his extramarital adventure.
