If former Senator Chuck Hagel is nominated as Secretary for state it would be the Worst possible message to Israel and our allies in the Middle East.
While in the Senate, Senator Hagel was opposed to sanctions for Tehran in 2004, 2007 and 2008. In the months after 9/11, when we were attacked, he warned of a "dangerous arrogance in America and a Pax Americana vision, that we think we are more powerful, richer, and smarter than the rest of the world". He has been a vocal critic of missile defenses and he wanted to halt their development as long as Russia is opposed to it. Mr. Putin wants to use arms control talks to curtail U.S. missile defenses in the next 4 years while Russia continues to build up their defenses.
Mr.Hagel supported ousting Hussein but later changed his mind and opposed the surge in 2007 which saved America from defeat. He called the surge a "dangerous foreign policy blunder". Mr. Hagel would also agree to drastic cuts to our military spending. We are at an especially dangerous time after years of wearing out ships and planes built in the 1980's. We need to provide our troops with the best ships, planes and supplies they need to protect them so they can do their job and protect the citizens of America. Mr. Obama and Mr. Hagel seem to have the same thoughts on foreign policy. The President sees Mr.Hagel as an ally who can help him shrink the pentagon and use the money instead to finance ObamaCare and other entitlements. Chuck Hagel is not the type of Secretary of Defense we need right now. We need someone who would be supportive to Israel and our other allies in the Middle East.
