The problems with our society run much deeper than gun availability. CT already has basically the strictest gun laws in the country. We tried tougher gun laws from 1994-2004 and the number of mass shootings went up. Making it harder for law abiding citizens to get guns won’t solve anything. Even if he couldn't have gotten a gun, he would have found another way – just look at what happened in China the same day. 9/11 happened because of box cutters. Criminals who want to get guns (or any weapons) will get them, just like heroin addicts will find heroin even though it’s completely illegal. Until we address the true issues here (violence, uncivil society, untreated mental health issues, etc.), nothing will change.
