A government mandated minimum wage distorts a free market system. It was never intended to be a living wage as so many argue. I suspect federal contract workers already make more than the minimum wage, so President Obama’s executive order will have little effect on the economy. A truly capitalist free market system naturally dictates the wages necessary to hire and keep good employees as companies compete for talented workers balanced against its production and profitability. Wages should be based on the value and contribution of the employee to the company he or she works for and not an arbitrary number forced on businesses by Congress or any other government entity.
