It is obvious that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Court abused its powers under the Patriot Act.  These searches are being called accidental overreaches.  They are unconstitutional and violate our rights as defined in the Fourth Amendment against unreasonable searches and seizures.   In the Patriot Act, the statute says that the FISA court can issue an order upon application of the Department of Justice (DOJ) or the National Security Administration (NSA) for things which are relevant to an ongoing terrorist investigation.  This collection of massive amounts of metadata was an absolute misapplication of the law.  It appears the collection of personal and private data on law abiding citizens may be much more expansive than we are already aware.  The person or persons responsible for this abuse of power should be exposed and charged with criminal acts in violation of the constitutional rights of private citizens who have no connection with terrorists or terrorist activities.  The government must be forced to answer to the people and the individual bad players should be punished severely enough so that others understand such abuses of power will not be tolerated.
