No, I believe the events in Syria should be considered independently of any other incidents or scandals. At this point a majority of Americans do not want to go into Syria in any way. The Syrian army is heavily militarized and could send missiles that would take out our warships stationed nearby. We do not know for certain who used chemical weapons on the Syrian people. The rebels appear to be radical Islamists. There are no good guys in this civil war. Any action we take will be considered a declaration of war against Syria and if we do we are going it alone. We have no support from any other country or the United Nations (not that I give that much credibility). A small or limited strike on our part could escalate very quickly into a global war, with Russia and China hovering to take advantage of a weakened U. S. military. I hope Congress refuses to grant President Obama his request for air strikes on Syria for crossing his “red line.” If he chooses to go it alone, perhaps finally the uninformed American public will realize how imperious President Obama truly is.
