It is obvious from this increase in food stamp trafficking that the program has gotten out of control and our tax dollars are not being spent wisely. A few months ago I contacted the state of Florida to see if there was a way to check if people who were receiving food stamps also had children participating in the free breakfast, lunch, and in some cases dinner at their schools. The answer was there is no cross check system in place. I suspect there is a lot of cross over and double-dipping between these programs that is not being caught, which results in a surplus of money being given to people on the program. In addition, the federal government has been advertising across the border in Mexico to get people to sign up for the food stamp program. The current administration wants more people to become dependent on it for their basic needs of food, shelter, and energy. Being on the dole used to have a stigma attached to it, but this is no longer the case. People have easily fallen into accepting the “free” stuff being handed out by our increasingly socialist government. There are people who really need this help, and wasting our tax money on people who are gaming the system only adds to our massive deficit and foments resentment from the already-overburdened taxpayers.
