Kudos to him! I know these tests are being administered without proper parental notification and the children are not being told it is voluntary. It is data mining. I have seen some of these tests and the questions they ask are invasive. I am linking the NAEP test here this year for Fourth Graders. Page 4 says it is voluntary, but I do not believe they explain this to the children. Look at page 18 and beyond and see what kinds of questions they are asking of ten year olds. This is not administered by the teacher; a facilitator comes in while the teacher sits at his/her desk doing busy work. Also, does a 10 year old understand these questions are of a personal nature, or do they believe it is part of the test that they need to answer correctly? This is scary. I wish more teachers would stand up and tell our children when these tests are voluntary. Schools must make sure that parents are notified and they should require written permission to administer these tests to their children after they have reviewed the kinds of questions they will be asked.
