No, citizenship is not a civil or human right!  American citizenship is a privilege granted to those born in this country and those who follow the rules and legally immigrate to America.   We come with the hope that their children and grandchildren will have a better future.  We are a nation of immigrants, a melting pot, as many call us.  We bring our customs  to share with our children but we come to America to become citizens of the greatest country the world has even known.  American citizenship is a privilege because we have the freedom and the opportunity to work hard to achieve our dreams.

It is a gift that can only be bestowed as a result of hard work and the desire to help to protect the very freedoms that allow so many of us to achieve our American Dream. Sometimes, being an American Citizen,  might even mean making sacrifices, including the ultimate sacrifice!
I am proud to be the Granddaughter of immigrants who came here with nothing  but the desire to work hard and have the freedom to  become a citizen of the greatest country in the world.
