This is nothing new.  There have been other Presidents who served on their own incomes.  It will seem to be a fine gesture.  We know from Sec. Kerry's previous Presidential run that he is very wealthy (or at least his wife is).  But then, aren't all of us going to "give back" to the US Treasury no later than April 15?
My husband and I live on Social Security and my not large state pension.  My husband has a small IRA.  We are both over 70.  We do not have investment income.  We have been thrifty all our lives.  Our home is paid for.  We do not borrow to buy our car.  We wait until we can pay for it and save all that huge interest.  We are able to contribute to our church and to charities.  We enjoy modest vacations.  We have never been wealthy but we are rich in friends, family, and things that money cannot buy.
