With approximately 1 out of every 8 people developing Alzheimer's disease in this country, does President Obama not think that drug companies know a little something about these diseases and are working quickly to bring drugs such as Aricept to market? While Aricept was a miracle drug for our family, keeping symptoms of this dreaded disease at bay, it did not cure or prevent this disease. While the scientific research for causes and cures continue in both commercial and academic settings, the NIH and the NSF play important roles in this regard as well. However, at a time when our fiscal house is in such disarray, our commander in chief's priorities should be defense of this country and the economy, Instead, President Obama says of the proposed 100 million he plans to spend on brain study, "(w)e can't afford to miss these opportunities while the rest of the world races ahead." Interesting, those words could easily be applied to getting our own military and domestic affairs in order.
