I think President Obama expressed what a lot of parents and grandparents think. They are relieved when their children take up swimming or track instead of a full contact, high risk sport like American football where players wear what amounts to body armor to protect from injury. Concussion, which only accounts for approximately 5 percent of injuries sustained, is particularly dangerous and can have long term ramifications if not treated properly.
President Obama's musings on the dangers of  playing football could be a precursor for regulation at the federal level. Would a field full of protective gear wearing football players resembling Michelin Men be anything but comical to watch as they lumbered around the field chasing a little brown football? Ridiculous as this seems it may be in our future, especially when it comes to football and kids.
