I asked my husband this question since he is a retired Army officer, and from his perspective allowing women on the front lines is not a wise move.  It is the natural inclination of men to protect women.  In a combat situation the men will try to protect the women from harm and lose sight of the mission.  Also, they are VERY aware of what happens to women who get captured by the enemy...are we prepared for that possibility?  How would the media react at home to a captured female soldier being tortured, raped and killed?  I know women do not get chances for advancement because of not being able to be in combat, but perhaps something can be addressed with that situation without them having to serve on the front lines.  That being said, since it has been announced, I would insist that any woman who wishes to serve in combat be required to complete the exact same training as the men. These rigorous standards must be upheld or our entire military will suffer.
