The tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, has gun control activists demanding stronger gun laws.  The Journal News not only printed the names and addresses of those residents who possess gun permits, they provided an interactive Google map. Their excuse is that the First Amendment gives them the right to do it.  Although it may be public information, this does not mean it should be made public.  While the Bill of Rights guarantees freedom of the press, I believe the founders expected that a moral people would consider the consequences of their actions and not abuse their rights at the expense of the security of others.  The actions of the Journal News endangered not only those whose names and addresses were listed, but also those who were not listed.  Freedom requires moral and responsible behavior.  The Journal News should be held responsible for their actions.  These citizens should file a class action lawsuit for deliberate and reckless endangerment against the paper, writer, and editors who allowed this to be published.  They should also be sued for any actual damages, loss or injury resulting from this callous lack of judgment.
