Our founding fathers never intended the use of executive orders to affect constitutional rights. Executive orders affect the executive branch only and do not hold the weight of law. So any attempts to legislate with these orders are unconstitutional.

I would recommend lawmakers try to actually help the situation rather than use events to push their agenda. But I doubt I can expect them to change their ways with such an opportunity before them.
