Senator Chuck Hagel’s anticipated nomination by President Obama for Secretary of Defense should be of great concern to us. At a time when our government must show strong and united support for Israel and continue to put pressure on Iran as it boldly and brazenly seeks to become a nuclear power, Hagel’s past statements do not appear to support America’s position. He has expressed that he does not support a United States or Israeli military strike against Iran. Whoever becomes Secretary of Defense must be someone who projects a firm resolve to protect the interests of the U. S., Israel and our other allies in the Middle East. It would seem that he is the perfect choice for the job if President Obama wants to reduce our military might and presence in the world.
I also have questions as to the character of Senator Chuck Hagel. I would be interested in his commenting on his failure to disclose his $5 million dollar investment in American Information Systems, Inc., the voting machine company, during his run for the Senate; and the fact that he ran the company up until two weeks before announcing his bid for the Senate seat in 1996.
