The Republicans were in a lose/ lose situation whichever way they went. If they let the tax cuts expire and everyone’s taxes increased, it would have been far worse. They really had no choice other than to hold their noses and vote for the terrible bill that they were handed. I hope they’re strong enough to stand their ground on spending cuts when they negotiate the debt ceiling.
I believe the payroll tax cut should never have happened. This is the percentage that all of us have paid into all of our working lives. I believe that the amount of the payroll tax cuts for the years that they were in effect will eventually be factored in in determining their social security benefits. Now all of our elected leaders look like they are in favor of a tax increase. Sometimes it’s best to leave well enough alone – or else just have made the payroll tax cuts permanent also. However, again, the lesser amount paid in will be used to determine benefits.
Those of us in the know understand the tax increases that will come as a result of Obamacare. Others either aren’t interested or wanted the health care bill so much that they ignored the facts. Pretty soon even they will understand the true costs of this abomination that was thrust on the American people by the Democrats.
