Today’s Woman in the Lens features Florida’s Karen Harrington. Palladian View does not endorse in contested primaries, but Mrs. Harrington is truly an example of our motto: “Building leaders of tomorrow by empowering women today.” Karen Harrington understands first-hand the struggles of small business as she has owned one for thirty years.
Karen Harrington’s family moved to South Florida from Massachusetts when she was a child. Her family of seven lived in a one-bedroom apartment while her parents worked to be able to open their first restaurant. It was those sacrifices that she remembers that instilled in her the values of hard work, saving, setting goals and family. She and her sister opened up their own family restaurant thirty years ago and have run it ever since. She is active in her community through fundraising for various youth organizations. Also, she is a cancer survivor who is a strong advocate for cancer awareness and early detection.
If Karen Harrington wins her primary, she will go on to face Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, the Chairwoman of the Democrat National Committee for the privilege of serving Florida’s District 20. Harrington has the backing of many conservative luminaries, including—Eagle Forum’s Phyllis Schlaffly (who personally endorsed her), “The One” Mark Levin (conservative radio talk show host), Stanley Tate, founder of the Republican Jewish Coalition, and Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.
Palladian View is pleased to spotlight this conservative Republican woman leader who has led by example, proving that hard work and family values are still at the core of the American Dream, and that small business is still the engine that fuels our economic growth.
